Trade unions may be good negotiators. Soviet Unions, not so much... (or the GDR, in this case)

please, for the love of god, leftists, please point to a bill or something that will help the CA housing crisis. you oppose steps forward like SB50 but seem to have nothing better in its place. meanwhile i'm paying 1.4k/mo for a closet with 4 roommates in SF. thanks.

Trains with no staff onboard already exists, like Vancouver's Skyline. And because they're so cheap to operate, they offer frequencies many American systems can only dream of. Mandating higher than necessary operating costs for trains isn't good for the environment or the public.

One thing about the old bail law: it, too, was a threat to public safety because by keeping people locked up before trial, it compelled quick pleas, not necessarily true ones. Some innocent people got convictions. They were proxies for the real criminals still walking around.

SB50 opposition is being lead by Socialists and MAGAs. The modern day Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

The theory coming out of some quarters of SB50 opposition is that it is better to build no housing than to build housing on the chance that someone might turn a profit on it

The main enemy remains "traditional" NIMBYs...but precisely because the reactionaries are so strong, pro-housing measures need pretty much every single group to fall in line in support. It's not a realm for holding out for perfection, bc the status quo is worse than anything.

Sure seems like a lot of radicals are making a pretty big gamble that they can compel massive action on social housing by opposing anything else before every single poor person is displaced from major cities. They're going to lose, though.

Red Line in Chicago has a few stops < 10 min walking from Wrigley Field that handlers suggest as alternatives when Addison gets overcrowded; and it never gets too bad as a result. Having stadiums in urban areas generally helps; easier to walk and lots heading to bars 1st

The 1619 project could've been something that taught people about all these evils that happened in America like this episode, or Rosewood or any of a number of other horrible racist events in our past, but instead it wanted to blame Atlanta traffic on slavery. SMDH

R6B as the citywide minimum would go a *long* way toward solving the housing affordability crisis.

There are several great questions that tell you who’s who in my little world, the Right. Two of the biggest are these: What do you think of Putin? What do you think of the Confederacy? The answers to those questions tell you almost everything.

But they also fit... in all their cars, with no traffic and at higher speeds than the train. If you want viable transit, you need a built environment that makes it the better option, or even a real option at all.

We could do without the totalitarian spying bit, but having a car-free commute from your suburb 100 miles away changes the game considerably, not to mention profitably.
