Whatever you think of Mr. Peterson, you gotta admit this article is hilariously clever. I dare you not to smile.http://www.macleans.ca/opinion/is-jordan-peterson-the-stupid-mans-smart-person/ …

who is Jordan Peterson? now i’m curious

-
He's a controversial psychology professor from Canada, who is a classical liberal, and who became infamous for standing up against a law in Canada last year which was designed to protect trans-rights, but which he claims legalized compelled speech.https://youtu.be/v-hIVnmUdXM

Jordan Peterson is
@meaningness, if@meaningness didn't understand anything about meaningness. (My superficial & illinformed hottake) -
I think Jordan petersons rise is a testament to just how large of a gap there is in our culture for meaningness, and he hits that in a way that resonates with the average person, whereas
@meaningness is too esoteric for a wide audience -
Another way to think about it is their reaction to postmodernism:
@jordanbpeterson turns away from postmodernism back to modernity, whereas@meaningness goes beyond postmodernism into 'metamodernism' to synthesize traditionalism, modernity, & post-modernity -
It's been awhile since I watched Petersons talks, but he'll imply there is some universal unchanging system to run a society, a la
@Meaningness 's eternalist stance -
But his criticism of the neurotic parts of the left are 'the right place and right time' to get a lot of resonance with people paired with a feel good accessible take on meanigness and culture where there is a total absence, as long as he doesn't fuck up, he'll go to the stars

I see JP as a solid psychologist & he presents his work in a somewhat unique way using mostly Christian mythology. But when he ventures in to economic, societal & philosophical territory his ideas seem loosely connected at best. :/
-
I attribute his cult-like success to a large demo of millennial'ish-aged men who've felt culturally alienated. Postmodernism is def a part of the equation, but JP's overly simplified rejection doesn't seem to be very well-informed from my perspective.

Oh, and it's not just the two of us. I have a dozen or so friends who, fairly independently, got curious about his work and what it represents recently. And I'm not saying we aren't missing something, but I do see that the blanket condemnation of he & his work is asinine.
