In what way was that election not a fluke? It seems black-swan-ish in almost every way.

Spending time back home (where you'll be visiting next week!) it became clear to me that people were much worse off economically now...
-
Man, I’m sorry to hear that. It’s like that back home in Michigan, too. People really struggling, even compared to recent times.
-
I hope the Dems can figure out a way to speak directly to this and present some more viable alternatives!
-
Sadly, I think the Dems are as fucked & useless as the GOP at this point, given their inability to challenge 45 even symbolically.
-
I’m up for it.

I saw the Populist wave coming a mile away. Maybe it's living in the South, I dunno, but when Bernie lost I wasn't hopeful of her chances.
-
The only people I see who were surprised by the results lived in big cities.
-
Whether surprising or not, it still seems unusual for an American election.
-
"A fluke is a lucky or improbable occurrence, with the implication that the occurrence could not be repeated."
-
Again, to me that fits the bill. But it depends on how picky you want to get about anything “being repeated.”
-
In that sense I think there will be more like him, just as there have been all over the world.
-
Maybe something worth discussing more at "Dharma: The Gathering".
-
I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Would love to drive through the country side with you while you're in town, to get a 1st hand look.
-
I'm game.
-
The upside of such an adventure would be: it's beautiful countryside.
-
Let's do it.

Not sure your background Michael, so it's foolish to presume, but I grew up in the poor rural South and then spent 10 years in Boulder...
-
I’m from the suburbs of Lansing, MI. Then lived all over the world for years. Then Boulder (14 years). Now California.
-
Or maybe we just by-pass this whole mess with new crypto-distributed-mesh-network-micro-economies. I dunno.
-
don't replace the government, replace the government's function
-
Agree.
