You can provisionally use it as a working axiom. Doesn’t have to be believed as somehow true, real, or actual.
I tend to return to the pragmatic test of truth. And, pragmatically, it is often best to believe. Just know if and when to stop.
Pragmatically it’s best to realize that true belief is not only utterly undesirable, it’s impossible. There will always be ambivalence.
And yet it’s still not enough. And still undesirable.
Why is it undesirable?
Is rationality a useful guide to ends?
But it would also be impossible to be reasonable if one cannot substitute that which is not known for a belief based on logical assumptions.
