@danielmingram yo daniel, have you ever focused on the sensation of space itself as a meditation object? (I don’t mean the sense... cut out a hole and view it as I see sometimes space kasina is explained)

For ages this is what I did when I followed basic instructions (on google or youtube, it was synonymous with "awareness" to me) untill i turned up at a goenka retreat and noticed a series of teachers thought it odd.

If this sounds weird to you... close one eye keep one eye open, then switch. That sense. The thing present with two eyes open and not one eye open.

This is my big question right now, I hope to find out. (I am not neurotypical and having originally thought that this is what people meant by "awareness" or "the mind"... probably a bias given i was raised by a visual artist mother and have ridiculous spacial reasoning scores)

(I know you asked @danielmingram a different question, but) Meditating on the sense of space is very interesting and useful. Eventually you notice that the entire sense that the world outside is deep, ie has a z-axis, is a fabrication of subtle mental image.
