(lost thread) nirodha refers to 3d N.T. 'cessation,' but not of consciousness; cessation of suffering, 'extinction' of the fires.' Cessation of perception (sensory input) and feeling (bodily sensation). But not consciousness. see next

(lost thread) "But in the case of a monk who has attained the cessation of perception & feeling, his bodily fabrication has ceased & subsided, verbal..., mental ..., his life force is not ended, his heat is not dissipated, and his faculties are bright & clear." SN 41.6

(lost thread) Thanissaro's 'unbinding' has an interesting interpretation: energy of fire is 'bound' to wood. When fire is put out, energy of fire is 'unbound' from wood, but still exists as potential energy. This is unbinding or cessation or nirodha.
