Insight through vipassana is momentum-based. Keep building up the momentum of practice (via retreats, etc.) and breakthrough realization will occur. Keep losing your momentum and it will take a long time.

That question is like asking "What's the best way to build muscle?" There is no one-size-fits-all technique. Find something that works for you, and do a lot of it.

If I found something that works for me I wouldn't be asking for ideas

Regular Vipassana mindfulness meditation. Metta. Goldstein said once that metta is what increased his concentration. I tried that.

Really neither. I spent more time at the former but I feel like I'm ADD when I'm trying. Maybe I spend too much time on Twitter .

Also, removing sources of distraction (such as Twitter) really helps. Building concentration is happening all day long, as is destroying concentration. Think of each moment of your day as an opportunity to build concentration.
