I've been watching a couple of white-tailed kites for the past several months. I watched the first one arrive in the area, begin hunting, and nesting. Then she? attracted a mate. I've been completely fascinated and inspired by them. /1

Later, I saw them mating, and then defending their nest from intruders, such as the local gang of crows. Previously, they had run from the harassment of the crows, but not after the birth. Watching what is essentially a mini-hawk dive bomb crows at speed is amazing. /2

Then the babies hatched, and in the past few days they've learned to fly. There are four of them. I rented a massive camera lens and took a few shots yesterday. So here are some pics of juvenile white-tailed kites for your viewing pleasure. /3pic.twitter.com/L9tIve4VlZ

The adults have a completely grayscale color pattern, but the juveniles have a cinnamon splash. /4
