In British/US English, "my boy" is a term of affection. In Nigerian English, the shadows of colonialism, patronage and class drift on stage.

@jeremyweate@Tomi_Ola In the Adichie context it looked demeaning. For 'my guys', we say "that's my boy", "na my guy be dat".
