I've been thinking some more on "morally gray" in MMOs. I think a problem arises when the *story* is morally gray, but since it's a game, violence is all but required. I don't know if there's any way around that.

SPOILERS!! But like, converting people to a religion to save their souls is usually morally gray. Not my cup of tea, but I understand the motivations. But when the converters have to violently attack you just to give the player something to do, then that starts verging on evil.

I don't really have a solution to that, I think for the most part violent actions have to be the norm, because it's the easiest way to make the player feel involved. The story has to be limited to things that can be resolved violently.

I would add to this actions that are cruel. The quests that bother me the most are the setting traps for animals ones. And the wanton slaughter ones.
