I've been thinking some more on "morally gray" in MMOs. I think a problem arises when the *story* is morally gray, but since it's a game, violence is all but required. I don't know if there's any way around that.
I would add to this actions that are cruel. The quests that bother me the most are the setting traps for animals ones. And the wanton slaughter ones.

As is often pointed out, this is not World of Peacecraft. So a certain amount of violence should be expected. As Westworld put it, "These Violent Delights Have Violent Ends."

But the mercenary attitudes that our characters are shoehorned into goes beyond defense of a homeland or a philosophy and often moves into "do a job to progress through the world, no matter what that job may be." Too often that job is killer for hire work.
