One of many messages from this article: "We grew up this way" is not a valid excuse for straight guys putting others on uneven pedestals.

Whether it's passive/unintentional or not, it's our responsibility to be more self-aware about ways in which we're sexist or bigoted.

And if we fuck it up -- as many of us will, because we DID grow up immersed in it -- it's on us to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Not to say "well, this is the way things are," and move on to things we personally deem more important. Because we're better than that.
