Sylvanas: my take 1. This is The War of the Thorns. There is huge symbolism in thorns. Thorns represent hardship, trials, a danger in your path. Sylvanas' thorns are memory, pain, loss.

I do not think Sylvanas will be getting a redemption, nor do I think she will remain Warcheif much longer. It all goes back to Vol'jin's decision to make her Warcheif. He was playing the long game and she is the sacrificial pawn.
