Netflix don’t do news & weather. Netflix don’t do radio. Netflix don’t do podcasts. Netflix don’t do Bitesize education. Netflix don’t show live sport or cover national events. Netflix don’t do regional specific content. Netflix don’t make Doctor Who.

My 21 year old producer cannot and will not accept the fact that as a young teenager I had a black & white TV in my room. I continued to add 'you also had to tune it in' and he replied with an expletive. He genuinely doesn't believe me. Shall I tell him about rewinding tapes?

I occasionally look around at academia and see the lack of equality and diversity in many different demographics, so forgive me if I occasionally ask unpleasant questions that might help me understand why this is and what we might be able to do about it. 😐

I was lucky enough to be in interviewed by as part of their series. It’s always nerve-wracking talking about personal issues and the human/non-science side of academia. Thoughts welcome!

Advice you never get in science is to have a few people who aren’t afraid to say “yea I kinda hate it” when you ask for opinions on a fig, poster, talk, etc Like i have a hundred different things I need to get done so just tell me right now if it sucks 😂

Mind you there are also Black classics that predate the Harlem Renaissance & all of those books are public domain too. And most of the Chicago Renaissance is public domain. Phillis Wheatley. W.E.B Dubois. Zora Neale Hurston. James Baldwin. Langston Hughes. Gwendolyn Brooks.

I keep coming back to this & the decision to erase Black classic lit from a Black history month celebration. In New York. Where the Harlem Renaissance happened. Fun fact they could have rereleased a bunch of those books with new covers & gotten excellent sales & press.

When it comes to choosing a grad program, the people are just as important (if not more so) than the research. The mentoring you receive and relationships you build during grad school are key to launching your career, and the research is a vehicle for that.
