In 2016, Trump narrowly won AZ, by about 91,000 votes. He won Maricopa county by 44,454. To win AZ in 2020, he needs to win here again, but it’s a suburban area, the kind of places he’s been losing ground. And so Lara Trump — a friendly-to-white-suburban-women Trump — is in town.
The type of people who come to events like this — especially in a pandemic — are not usually uncertain about who they’ll vote for. But it’s still interesting to hear how little of Lara Trump’s message is tailored to the white college educated Trump-skeptics they need to win.
Instead, Lara Trump just announced, “THE POLLS ARE WRONG!” This was met with wild cheering from the audience.
Lara Trump says the polls are “suppression polls,” but even if that was true, it wouldn’t make sense. If the polls were designed to suppress the vote for Trump, presumably they’d show him winning, which could make his voters think they don’t need to show up on Election Day.
This is sort of the problem for the Trump campaign: his base loves that his busiest surrogates — like Lara, or Don Jr. — sound just like Donald Trump. But if the hope is that someone like Lara could relate to voters who are turned off by him, I don’t see how that could work.
Girl, you in danger!
Who is so obsessed with the Trump Cinematic Universe that they’re getting Covid for Lara?!
Purple who wear masks before their noses are the worst. Big pet peeve of mine, don't know why (other than then obviously negative epidemiological effects)
