I don’t think it’s controversial to believe that reporters should always be on the side of putting more information into the public sphere about how public officials think. This is true also when the public officials in question think dumb fucking thoughts.

Are you missing the distinction between "too dangerous to read" and "not necessary to publish?" A major part of the issue here is that the Times gave him its platform and legitimacy. They didn't have to do that. And they didn't fact check it or contextualize it.

What exactly is the point to publish it in an op-Ed? With my subscription money? There are many videos published daily on PornHub, I don’t expect to see them on PBS tonight. And as a supporter I would be upset if I find them there.
