It’s concerning to see Labour MPs complain they can’t understand the Withdrawal Agreement Bill within three days because legislation is technical. If you can’t understand legislation, feel free not to put yourself forward to be a legislator. 🤷‍♂️

Or is your leader trying ram it through quickly to avoid proper scrutiny 🤔

I don't actually know this; how long is is it usual for a bill to get considered and debated before it goes to a vote for assent?

To give some perspective - the Wild Animal Circus Bill, which affected a grand total of 19 zoo animals and was minuscule, was debated for twice as long as we're granting the Withdrawal Agreement Bill.

Just reading “Why we get the wrong politicians” by Isabel Hardman (interesting book). According to that, actual and proper scrutiny by MP’s is unusual. Cites examples where MP’s were in the wrong lobby because they did not know what they were voting for.

Problem being is that the 5% contains stuff like ‘Ireland drops of the map’, ‘the minimum wage goes in the bin’ and ‘the NHS is sold to the US insurance companies’ devils always on the detail.

A bit like Dominic Raab not understanding Dover was a crucial port.
