It’s the first day of Black History Month, which means we’re celebrating 28 days of too! Use this hashtag to celebrate black disabled icons who inspire you. They don’t have to be famous, but everyday disabled black ppl who move you.

A lot of autistic people prefer the opposite. I'd like you to get to the point quickly, not wade through a bunch of polite script first.

White supremacy runs so deep in every facet of American culture that even black deaf ppl gotta code switch. The history of Black American Sign Language (BASL) and American Sign Language (ASL) is that BASL was birthed by racial segregation in deaf schools.

Shonda Rhimes talks about this a bit in her book. How as soon as you get successful, people are going to come out of nowhere and ask for things that they have no business asking for.

Also, this was a harsh lesson I had to learn my damn self is that no one owes you anything just cuz you admire them or they're in the public eye and have access to opportunities you want. It's a sense of entitlement I think most people have. I had to humble myself to realize it.

I despise networking and hate asking close friends for help. It's not the right way to live or think, but it's how ableism has taught me that you need to be independent and self-sufficient. Also, I'm an introvert. Interacting with people is taxing.

Especially if the person is a disabled advocate. You don't know what they're going thru. If they're sick or in the hospital when u send an email with an ask first. I'm sick rn, and there's nothing more aggravating then opening my inbox to see an ask email from a total stranger.

I don't play no cut cards. I get cut right to the chase if I think your email asking me to help you when I don't know you is rude. I tell them, let's put the shoe on the other foot. How would you feel if the only thing a person said to u was hello can you help me w/ my project?

How many of you knew that Clevland Brown is voiced by a white actor? The show was canceled and was one of the few all-black animated series. I mean, how many black characters can you name? It limits opportunities 4 black voice actors. Let them play white roles, not just tokens.

If you weren't taught how to network, then remember the golden rule of not letting your first interaction with a person be an immediate ask. Advocates don't mind helping people but you have to realize we're people too and can only do so much for so many people. Damn.

I wish some of you would hit my inbox with a "hi, how are you doing?" Before immediately going in and asking me to help you with your project despite not knowing you for 5 good minutes. That's not networking. It's just rude.

Stairs are NOT women's bathrooms in a restaurant, bar, or club. Honestly, any women's bathroom. THAT is where you find friendship.

Her white life of generational wealth privilege was easy so she couldn’t possibly fathom POC patients experiencing racism from doctors cuz she hadn’t. I’m not letting her off the hook either cuz she was old enough to know better. I’m tired of giving ppl the benefit of the doubt.

When she wanted to re-enter the workforce after 7 yrs, she went to a party & gave her business card to someone who later hired her for an executive level position. 🙄 Maybe this is why she was adamant POC patients were judging white doctors unfairly. All she knows is privilege.

You know how many working class moms of color who would give ANYTHING to be able to stay at home to raise their kids for 7 years without having to worry about family finances? Generational wealth wealth white privilege is a trip ain’t it?

What annoyed me about this co-facilitator was that we were also talking to pre-med students about career. The white privilege just jumped out of her. I asked if we could talk about our biggest career regrets. Karen’s was leaving the workforce for 7 yrs to be a stay at home mom.

I couldn’t stand how she falsely equated prejudice w/ systematic racism + ableism. POC’s prejudice against YT doctors is rooted in centuries long history & evidence that YT doctors subject their POC patients to racism to this day. POC can’t subject YT doctors to racism PERIODT.

Some WP don’t like to listen to lectures about racism and will do the most to shift the focus of the conversation and take power from you. I was lecturing YT premed students on unconscious bias and my YT female co-facilitor told them “they’re judging you too.” 🙄
