That's not really the only level that I feel that way about. It's just the stage with the worst camera.
Whomps and WDW are the worst offenders of this for sure, I also don't like TTM that much for this either

Well in the whomps fortress painting you can see ground at the bottom. I think it's supposed to be a flying fortress.
