We’ve been getting calls and outreach from Queens residents all day about this. The community’s response? Outrage.

Amazon is a billion-dollar company. The idea that it will receive hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks at a time when our subway is crumbling and our communities need MORE investment, not less, is extremely concerning to residents here.

When we talk about bringing jobs to the community, we need to dig deep: - Has the company promised to hire in the existing community? - What’s the quality of jobs + how many are promised? Are these jobs low-wage or high wage? Are there benefits? Can people collectively bargain?

Displacement is not community development. Investing in luxury condos is not the same thing as investing in people and families. Shuffling working class people out of a community does not improve their quality of life.

Lastly, this isn’t just about one company or one headquarters. It’s about cost of living, corps paying their fair share, etc. It’s not about picking a fight, either. I was elected to advocate for our community’s interests - & they‘ve requested, clearly, to voice their concerns.

I seriously doubt you have even the most rudimentary understanding of all the economic opportunities this situation presents. Try to stay out of the way with all your nonsense.

Rent is based on property taxes, regulations, the quality of the renters, and over head costs as it related to all of that. It starts with property taxes. The higher the taxes the higher the rent. The more people trash something they do not own the high the rent. Crime comes in...

So true. In NJ property taxes r sky high because of public schools. Home values in shore resort towns r inflated because they do not pay school taxes. Million $$ homes pay less in property taxes than $250K homes.Taxes main reason. The rich use as tax shelters

Oh, I'm sure she does. And she thinks the $9000/per person/per year price tag can be paid for by taxing 1% of the population while the other 99% get it for $1000/yr or less. That's because she is an idiot (as is anyone else who thinks this is an affordable plan for most people).

Everything is relevant, raise wages dramatically and retail prices will skyrocket; that brings us back to square one. Raising wages is not the answer, education is!
