Yes, but only for a little while because they thought they weren't necessary anymore. Then when the call came, they strapped on the belts again and against all odds saved the day. Then, they say something mysterious and/or masculine and slowly rode away, leaving us wondering...

Not always. But the heavy leadership and brutal control are similar in many cases. There is little personal freedom

Those in Zambia and Malawi. Admittedly I was there in the late 1960s. But I saw them in action then and heard about a lot more from my parents after that when they corresponded to their friends who still lived there.
