I curious, do some people have a larger "mental fortress"? I find, with most of my friends, that I'm largely okay with new information. (I do *not* claim immunity from backfire!) But some folks seem to backfire on any new data.

I’d suspect it’s similar to fear in how some people freeze up but some do not.
