PART 2/2: On her first day of Kindergarten, “Emily” started crying hysterically in the parking lot. Emily’s guardian “Hannah” sat in the car and talked to her for a few minutes through her tears, hoping she’d be able to help her. (See thread for more)pic.twitter.com/LjudXShyRp
Emily quickly fell asleep. When she woke up a short time later, her demeanor had completely changed and she exclaimed, “Hannah, I’m ready to go!” Hannah walked around the car, opened the door, held her hand and walked her to her class.
As they were walking, Emily looked up and said, “Thanks for letting me take a minute. I just needed a minute to be able to have the courage to walk into school.” When Hannah picked her up after school, Emily ran up to her and hugged her.
She was so excited to tell Hannah all about the picture she colored and about snack time. “What that communicated is that she had a normal day at school,” Hannah said. “After being sold for four years of her life, this was a beautiful moment." Kids were never meant to be sold.
Moments like this show how kids who have been trafficked want the chance to truly be a kid.
