Crossing the Arctic Ocean on sea ice can be tricky since the ice is in continuous movement. Will you walk down-drift or up-drift? Read more about how drift data are used to investigate the effect of drift in a recent polar expedition

We also look at how some products over- and under-estimate 100% concentration conditions. And we use plenty of ship-based observations! About 7,000 from and ~8,000 from .

The ocean is steadily but not uniformly. See our anomaly forecast for Jan 1 #2020 (an anomaly is the departure from a long-term average). Red indicates warming as compared to the recorded average for the area while blue shows cooling.
