There is a difference in the numbers as we include all deaths where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate even if only suspected, and we include deaths that happened in hospital and in the community. Our blog post explains this is in more detail

As part of the “White” ethnic group, 74.4% of the population in England and Wales identified their ethnic group as “English, Welsh, Scottish, Northern Irish or British”. This is a continued decrease from: ▪️ 80.5% in 2011 ▪️ 87.5% in 2001

In England the highest the rate of deaths in October of the last ten years was in 2012 which was significantly higher than October 2020. In Wales, October 2014 had the highest rate in the last 10 years and this was not significantly different to October 2020 ^Sarah
