    Social studies require us to help our students discern fact from fiction and reach an opinion, or conclusion, rather than ignore the facts just because they’re uncomfortable. Critical thinking and courage is part of what education is about.

    Summary: The audit revealed some systemic problems, including a lack of transparency, conflicts of interest & private equity fees. However, STRS is on a solid fiscal footing. There is no need to panic, but we must work for greater transparency and accountability at STRS.
