    During the early hours of 17 May 1943, eleven aircraft returned to . Sadly, 53 of the 133 aircrew who participated in the attack were killed, 38 from the RAF, 13 RCAF and two from the RAAF.

    in 1942 : First drop of the spinning bomb, later known as the bouncing bomb of the Dambuster Raid. It was released from a Vickers Wellington off Chesil Beach in Dorset. The test revealed that the bomb casings used were not strong enough.

    Meeting Keith was wonderful. A brilliant man who epitomised the strength of character and enthusiasm for life common amongst his generation of pilots. His stories were awe inspiring. I have thought of him often and will remember him with deepest respect. A legend. RIP
