Once again, we mourn – California’s victims of three mass shootings in as many days and our own Marylanders falling victim to gun violence each day. Gun safety legislation and crime-fighting efforts must be a priority, so people feel safe in their homes, schools, and communities.

This morning we announced the indictment of nine members and associates of a West Baltimore drug-trafficking organization, known as the “Wick Squad.” This is just the beginning of our plan to strategically target organized crime and reduce drug trafficking and gun violence.

This morning, I had a very productive meeting with Governor Wes Moore, Lt. Governor Aruna Miller, and US Attorney for Maryland Erek Barron, and I’m pleased to say we are in agreement that public safety and reducing violent crime is a top priority.

It's alarming that evidence from around 1,800 sexual assault exams remains untested. We cannot let this critical evidence slip through loopholes. It must be protected, and we are committed to seeing that it is.
