I once had a teacher point to me and announce to the entire class that I, not a Jew, could be of particular help to the class for the “bible as literature” unit since I was a Jew. She thought I was a Jew because my first name is a biblical name that was rather rare, at the time.

Said first name went on to become a #1 baby name in the US many years later. Also, there were at least two students in the class with distinctly Jewish sounding last names, not that it would have been acceptable for her to have singled out one of them.

Yeah... I’m not Jewish, raised Catholic. Went to a secular school with a Jewish teacher. I liked him. He had a menorah in the class and always wore a SoD. Anyway, one day after class I asked him to point me in the right direction to learn about Judaism. He freaked out!!! 1/2

Said “You’re turning from Christ?!” I told him I was just curious and wanted to know more about the Jews. He loses it! “Jew is a slur! Jewish people. That’s what you say.” I apologize for offending his faith. Now I lose it. “My faith? I’m not jewish, I’m a Pentecostal!”
