We didn’t know he paid the bill already when we asked for the check. Sneaky big guy

You guys describe yourselves as "deafies"? I don't know why that brought a smile to my face.
-
Thanks for the response, Nyle. You totally rock!pic.twitter.com/xA3nj1HvKx

I wish I could sign with such fluidity as he does.
-
Practice helps... if you fingerspell all the time, like whatever words you see or think of, your dexterity will improve and your fluidity too !
-
That's exactly what my friend who is teaching me recommended. I fingerspell every sign I pass at work all day!
-
Awesome!! Your friend gave good advice! Good luck on your road to fluency!
-
Thanks! I've been learning for about 2 years. I'm a teacher for the blind, but have a deaf-blind student and am learning so I can communicate more easily with her without an interpreter.

Is deafie an offensive term if used by a non-deaf person? I am unfamiliar with deaf culture and this tweet came upon the tl. Just looking to be educated, thank you
-
This is a great question! Would love to know, as well!!
-
i’ve taken asl class for a few years and they teach us about deaf culture within the class, and yes deafies is commonly seen as an offensive term. wouldn’t recommend using it
-
but it all depends on the person you meet! some are ok with it some aren’t, it’s best to shy away from the term though :)

How did he know ASL?
-
I'm sure it's what he took for his foreign lang requirement at UT
-
No, his “accent” is too natural to have just learned in college. If he’s not a native speaker, I bet he learned it in childhood/adolescence.
-
Oh that's true and valid!
