It's a function of using Mailchimp to send our newsletter; it charges us for every subscriber, and therefore it really helps us to know...
... that folks we're sending to actually read it & we're not just wasting money we could be spending on projects etc. Sorry for any offense!

I imagine the issue is that there is no good free newsletter solutions for non-profits.
