Been following development from a distance. Now at v1, what are the goals for the Julia project? Do you hope to replace MATLAB/Numpy+Scipy for scientific computing? Or offer an alternative? Why switch? What’s the pitch?

Everyone has their own ideas for this, but I think one of the main goals is to make "metaprogramming mathematics" part of standard computing. In many other languages, you cannot do differentiable programming on the full language, hence why TF and PyTorch make a sublanguage.
