      that's the goal of numfocus, I believe. It's basically "A foundation as a service"...I agree it would be well-placed to figure out some of these things, not sure if it's something they've made a push on though.

      I *think* that @_inundata said that rOpenSci has hired people through numfocus but I'm not sure if that's true. I know that @tracykteal may have thoughts on this too

      If a project brings in money they can use it to pay independent contractors. As far as I know, no one on projects is paid as staff.

      NumFOCUS pays a variety of independent contractors who do work on behalf of the projects.

      Are these explicitly laid out somewhere? It sounds like there's some deal of confusion within the community supported by numfocus as to the positions etc that are technically a part of numfocus

      I don’t see the confusion. Numfocus does not support FTEs of any kind nor does it have plans to. They can help their projects pay contractors.

      The projects who are paying contractors absolutely have access to this type of list for their project.
