Would it kill @matplotlib to put a god damned example on every method description?

It wouldn't kill matplotlib, it would kill whoever's job it is to go through the docs and do that. It's a worthy goal though. BTW not to tone police, but this could be said in a nicer way. As an OSS maintainer, these sorts of tweets are very de-motivating.

Yeah I probably could have, but this has frustrated me for years. I also know of much smaller OSS plotting software packages (Bokeh, for example) that have managed to do this.

bokeh may be opensource, but it also has been fully developed and funded by a private company. matplotlib has been fully developed on people's free time, and yet is still the n°1 plotting library for publication quality scientific plots :)

Interesting. Perhaps the solution is to actually pay some people then? With billions of dollars going into data science *someone* should step up...
