Something with a bit of humor, like Max Brailler's action-packed graphic novel series, The Last Kids on Earth, might work. If they want a bit more of a scary challenge, test out R.L. Stine's Goosebumps or Christian McKay Heidicker's Scary Stories for Young Foxes. #AskALibrarian

Halloween/spooky reads for a 10yr old that scares easily? #askalibrarian

Gothic fiction might work, since it's known for being atmospheric/creepy/spooky but not always as intense as outright horror. Maybe Ruth Ware's The Turn of the Key, Isabel Canas' The Hacienda, Emily M. Danforth's Plain Bad Heroines, or Lauren Owens' Small Angels. #AskALibrarian

Something spooky but not outright horror.
Ray Bradbury's creepy Halloween classic, Something This Way Comes, and Rainbow Rowell's feel-good graphic novel, Pumpkinheads. Also, scary reads like Tananarive Due's menacing The Good House and Cassandra Khaw's haunting Nothing But Blackened Teeth. #AskALibrarian

For an offbeat, heartwarming option, The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. If you prefer speculative fiction, try Becky Chambers' hopeful, lyrical A Psalm for the Wild-Built. It can depend on your mood, but both of those have been very popular with readers. #AskALibrarian

book recs you’d give to someone who wants to fall in love with reading again?

Board books starring female characters? Try Jessie Ford's upbeat, colorful AMC What Can She Be? Or Libby Babbott-Klein's engaging Baby Feminists, which introduces feminist icons, and Joyce Wan's inspiring story in rhyme, Dream Big. #AskALibrarian

I ordered a bunch of popular board books on Amazon for my 9 mo. old and now she has no stories about female characters. Any recs for this age range?

On the topic of disability and chronic illness: disability rights activist Judith E. Heumann's witty memoir Being Heumann, Bess Williamson's thoughtful Accessible America, and Tessa Miller's candid What Doesn't Kill You. #AskALibrarian

I've listened to 75% of THE INVISIBLE KINGDOM: REIMAGINING CHRONIC ILLNESS in the past two days, so… please recommend some audiobooks? I'm in the mood for more nonfiction: sociology of work and hobbies, disability, etc. #AskALibrarian

If you want more similar to The Ex Hex, try Celestine Martin's Witchful Thinking, a heartwarming, upbeat witchy love story in a charming small town. If you want to pair a book with a movie, you can try Alice Hoffman's funny, mystical Practical Magic. #AskALibrarian

Try Polish author Olga Tokarczuk's Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead for an offbeat mystery. For Swedish mysteries, check out Camilla Lackberg's atmospheric novels. Or, for another Japanese mystery, try the haunting Six Four by Hideo Yokoyama. #AskALibrarian

I just finished a Japanese murder mystery (The Devotion of Suspect X by K. Higashino) and now I want to read mysteries from other non-American/English countries. More far-flung the better. Recs? #AskALibrarian

If you want books that discuss leisure instead of work, you might like Celeste Anne Headlee's thought-provoking Do Nothing or Olga Mecking's engaging Niksen: Embracing the Dutch Art of Doing Nothing. #AskALibrarian

I'm looking for something about hobbies… not self help or a specific hobby how-to, but a sociological angle? something like WORK WON'T LOVE YOU BACK or CAN'T EVEN, but about leisure instead of work. (I prefer audiobooks but ebooks are OK, too.) #ShelfServiceLive #AskALibrarian

Hey #RootRootRead friends: I’m looking for good books about the evolutionary history of humanity. I’ve heard the science in ‘Sapiens’ is questionable, so I’ve put that one aside for the moment. Any other recs or suggestions?

People of Twitter, I’m looking for book recommendations. I’m not interested in fantasy, most sci-fi, magical realism, YA, or horror. I like a good thriller, mystery, and usually enjoy historical fiction. Non-fiction OK. Recently I’ve liked The Midnight Library and False Witness.
