Noubar Afeyan’s posts

We are delighted to have reached the milestone of emergency use authorization and deployment of the mRNA-1273 vaccine — pioneered, tested, manufactured, and authorized based on very strong safety and efficacy data. How was this improbable journey made possible? 1/6

"Libraries and museums are the DNA of our culture. Cemeteries do not provide earthly immortality to men and women; libraries, museums, universities and schools do." From his speech at the White House in 2002. Vartan Gregorian (2008). “The Road to Home: My Life and Times”, p.284.

An honor to connect with , PM of my former homeland, and discuss the approval and rollout of the vaccine in Canada.

This afternoon, I connected with @NoubarAfeyan - he’s a former Montrealer, fellow McGill graduate, and the cofounder of Moderna. We spoke about their COVID-19 vaccine, which @GovCanHealth approved today, and the work we’re doing to distribute doses as quickly as possible.

Humanitarian crisis unfolding in #artsakh (#NagornoKarabakh) subjecting peaceful Armenian residents to blockade, threats and now imminent danger to their lives.
Quote
A brief thread to explain why the bitter conflict over Nagorno Karabakh may be entering a dangerous new phase, based on a phone call I received tonight from Stepanakert from Ruben Vardanyan, the state minister for Artsakh, as #Armenians call the disputed territory.

Well framed by Speaker Pelosi - “from the US to Ukraine to Taiwan to Armenia, the world faces a choice between democracy and autocracy” #armenia
Quote
Our Founders chose democracy over autocracy on #ConstitutionDay 1787. For generations, we have protected and defended that choice. Today, from the US to Ukraine to Taiwan to Armenia, the world faces a choice between democracy and autocracy — and we must, again, choose democracy.

Thanks Administrator Power for your statement on this growing crisis. The Armenian American community urges the US government to step in and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe as the peaceful population of Artsakh is terrorized and blockaded.

The Lachin Corridor must be re-opened immediately - the closure has the potential to cause a significant humanitarian crisis. This corridor is an essential route for the flow of much needed food and medical supplies that must be allowed to flow freely.

With all of the turbulence in the world, this is not a time to relax accountability and favor expedient, unprincipled and forced resolutions. Humanitarian intervention is not about taking geopolitical sides, it is about saving lives!

(1/7) Some experts are questioning whether vaccines will work to prevent #COVID19 - whether they should be tested in humans without more proof in animals first, whether they will increase viral activity rather than reducing it,..
