follow up point, I fully appreciate that you may want to please people around you and not disrupt the status quo, but it is not only your right to say 'No' but you absolutely owe it to yourself and every other person who comes after you to help dismantle crunch as a norm.

every time you say "oh it's just 1 hour more." you let every other person around you think that is expected of them too. Including those who don't have the wealth of experience to fall back on. It is your responsibility to not contribute to it, no matter how small.

Easy rules: If something CAN be done in "oh it's just 5 minutes" it's clearly not that big of a deal = do it tomorrow. If something CAN'T be done in just 5 minutes, it's clearly too big of a task = do it tomorrow.

Totally agree. If you're having to work overtime then you have to look at the people and processes creating the work. What annoys me most in games is the push back on process creativity/deviance to elevate the practice from people who have been most affected by it in the past.

Yeah, working overtime is bollocks. Nobody is gonna notice anyway. Also, if you aren't logging overtime, it's just a production nightmare - worked 13h on that but logged only 7? That's coming back to haunt you when a new production cycle starts.

yeah youre exactly right. saying you can get 13 hours just makes it worse every single time. if paid overtime was a general thing, then i guess thats up to the individual, but thats not even standard anyway so theres literally no upsides haha
