Unpopular opinion: systemd is pretty good.

Honestly, it's really not that unpopular of an opinion. I mean, it won the "init wars" for a reason. But systemd hate has long stopped being about any technical factors, and through a perfect storm of coincidence become a core part of an us vs them ingroup mythology.

Part of the reason is "it has full time developers", which is a weak point from a free software perspective, because now we have core infrastructure that is dependent on continuous flow of money. At this point you have a "free software" vs "open source" split.

as opposed to Linux, GNOME, all of the FSF, anything sponsored by the Linux foundation, all programming languages, databases? Almost anything worthwhile has lots of paid contributors.
