they significantly fixed the "people stealing devices from their customers" problem with this feature, as bad as it otherwise is :V they really need to make exceptions though.

i feel like just noting which accounts had been associated with a device would be enough to deter theft, as then it would be trivial to find and prosecute the thieves. but, yeah, i guess under capitalism we care more about theft than literally throwing away expensive things :(
