does anyone know who to talk to about what happened with the semantic web community? why am I finding only dead links to beautiful ideas? the tools I've found have been pretty crude, but already very interesting and useful. it feels like I'm exploring some very recent ruin?
some of the most influential ideas and people in the field were killed, in some cases quite literally, by the state and big businesses.
this is the story I would like to hear and might be part of my sense that there is something looming here that people are reluctant to talk about. if you have any pointers here/are willing to dm would love any info you can share
I don't think I have any special insight, really. Looking at the rest of your thread, you're aware that Aaron Schwartz was heavily involved in some of the more interesting parts of this work; I recall some of the smaller publishers interested in this being bought by Elsevier, too
