as awful and vile and harmful as kiwifarms is i have to say i'm with cloudflare on this. i do not want to live in a world where i need goodwill from the societal majority to publish

right, but there's no denying that cloudflare giving up on neutrality is an incredibly large step in that direction and not just a small one. the difference between publishing on a large social media platform vs on your own website vs not on the internet at all is not the same
And publishing through a large privately owned CDN is not the same as running your own infrastructure and relying only on standardized internet resources. Same reason I think"the cloud" is a shit idea, it gives private companies complete control over "your" product/site.

Yes, it would probably be good to have a content-neutral publishing system for the clearnet but we don't. Period. So simply deciding not to use the controls that do exist against murderers is naïve at best imo

"the controls that do exist" is not just a technical concept but a societal one. of course cloudflare can block them at any time and ultimately has that power. but as long as they refuse to do it to anyone they will refuse to do it for everyone. this is a watershed

thanks to the asymmetry of DDoS running on your own infrastructure is not an option if anyone with some money doesn't want you to. running on your own infrastructure is not an alternative, which is the entire problem here.
