seeing reports that twitter is a/b testing forcing the algorithmic timeline, aka putting your tweets on shuffle to temporarily drive up advert engagement metrics as ever, the moment twitter does this, i'll inevitably stop using the website, much like i did fb and insta

the problem i find with the timeline-on-shuffle setting is that there's no real reward to checking back in on the website—i find myself refreshing, seeing old tweets at random, and then just slowly giving up on using the site

people have repeatedly suggested i post more bird content to insta, but it's honestly a really shitty experience for sharing photos, and as far as I can tell right now, it's where people go to repost tiktoks

anyway i guess it's disappointing and not surprising that twitter is a/b testing new algorithmic timelines, they do this every couple of months, but it's worth noting they're also experimenting with subscriptions, too

i did log on to mastodon and it's it's a bit of a ghost town for me, lots of accounts inactive for years, many instances offline altogether, and frustratingly, the timeline doesn't show toots of the people who are still using the website
