it is, like tarot and other methods of divination, a way to cast an externally dictated framing on empirical situations and thus force oneself to reconsider one's biases. personally, i don't know anyone who actually thinks the positions of the planets materially affect outcomes

certainly there _are_ people who believe directly in the influence of such things but i'd argue it's no more problematic than people kneeling in front of a rack of candles and asking baby jesus to heal their family member's cancer. it's about comfort and reframing and it's fine.
