Perhaps the most important gender thing the pandemic taught me is that "passing" - not a self-evident goal, but often a safety concern - absolutely cannot be judged based on the reactions of cis people who already knew you. ...
... People in my family misgender me all the time, but strangers almost never do. The people we know see us in a certain way based on the experiences they've had of us in the past; the people we meet out in the world are receiving us as we are now for the first time.

This is why I kind of want to move far away from my home town. Spend a couple of years surrounded by brand new people until my friends and family can start seeing me as who I am, not who they thought I was.
