nerdsnipe for the evening: they've discovered a Universal Scalar - a single variable whose value is consistent throughout the universe at a given time - and built a machine that can modify and detect its value. how do you turn this into a usable communications system?
No, I mean - how do you establish those channels? If you're using frequency-based channels, people in different reference frames will see different frequencies. Doppler shift from hell.

-
If the value is constant, it's not a frequency though. Seems more like wide area entanglement. We could use more traditional methods of establishing a session, and then use this for passing as little data as possible to take advantage of the speed.
-
Not constant - just the same across all of space at each instant.

You can either have General Relativity (where things like reference frames matter) or you can have "instant" communication. You can't have both, I'm afraid, because it would contradict the very idea of spacetime, where there is no notion of "instant".

the doppler effect shouldnt matter as long as everyone involved samples more than 2x the baseline interval, and every message begins with a sync prefix. the real challenge is establishing a write lock if the USV doesn't have a natural revert state
-
if, when you unplug your machine, the USV reverts to the value it had when we found it, then you've discovered the world's biggest CAN bus

My idea isn't scalable, but perhaps we assign an ID to each channel that acts as a multiplier to a message. Like a baseX system where X is the number of channels. A little like bitflags and Linux permissions octals.
