If you're talking about language/dialect, it could be predetermined when establishing a channel like en-US. This is simplistic, but there are many things that can be established as part of a session of sorts which would make the message header more slim. It's already too big.

No, I mean - how do you establish those channels? If you're using frequency-based channels, people in different reference frames will see different frequencies. Doppler shift from hell.

My idea isn't scalable, but perhaps we assign an ID to each channel that acts as a multiplier to a message. Like a baseX system where X is the number of channels. A little like bitflags and Linux permissions octals.
