That's what I love about Vim! You can feasibly use it as a UNIX tool which you open from the command line per file or pipe stuff into or whatever, AND as a traditional always-open IDE/editor type thingy It's so good :3
i use mine as a terminal multiplexer, with $EDITOR set to a program that RPCs to the surrounding editor instance to open files, and I've set the window title to have the cwd of the editor, so i can search my windows for a project. I'm very very much in the latter group
