One thing that I find gives me pause when deleting code even with version control is how poorly such deleted code is exposed for searching/cataloguing. If we take this out because we don't need it right now, but we want it back N years from now, will we find the old version?
Yeah, that's a real issue! Generally, I try to scale that kind of thing down to one commit, and call that commit "delete unused class MyUnusedClass" followed by a short description of what it did, so I can at least search the Git history.
