one of those little companies can make a nice living for 2-4 people but *only if they actually make users happy*. it does also encourage you to focus and cut scope, which has both good and bad consequences...
yeah. but then if you're doing that successfully on a proprietary and closed platform, you will inevitably get sherlocked, so we have to either accept a dead boutique software industry, or else use open platforms.

yeah absolutely, this industry has been kind of dying out and being replaced with iOS crapware factories, *because* Apple's new business models no longer incentivize creating a platform that supports this kind of thing!
