I had a similar experience in France, except they charged me noting. One of the best experiences I’ve had with healthcare.
I had to get an X-ray in Greece one time. It took me one day to get an appointment, I met with the surgeon, he assessed the X-ray immediately and then profusely apologized because they had to charge me - $30 - because I'm not a Greek citizen and can't get their medicare4all.

I got a bad sunburn in France. My French mom opened the phone book, called a dermatologist, saw her the next day, $10 for office visit, 3 bucks for cream. VERY reasonable.

They have a better health care system than we do. So, yeah. Nobody is bankrupt because of health care.

Had the same experience when my girlfriend got really sick in Spain, though they didn't charge us anything.

But their hospitals are in pretty bad shape though. Few years ago, I was in Athens and caught very bad flu. I went to an emergency unit of a hospital closed by, and surprisingly, it didn’t open on that day. I took a cab and went to another hospital.
